The Making of an Environmental Conservative. - book reviews
Michael LernerIndiana RepubLican chairman Gordon Durnil was named by George Bush as US chair of the International Joint Commission responsible for the Great Lakes. He became, he says, an "environmental conservative" dedicated to the principle that preventing toxic pollution is more cost-effective than managing it. He discovered the need for a zero-toxics discharge goal for the Great Lakes and for a drastic consideration of products made from chlorinated organic molecules. He forged an environmental philosophy which, if widely adopted by other conservatives, could be vital to our health and environment. Who else has book-jacket quotes from Dan Quayle and Greenpeace's Jack Weinberg?
