Colorado Springs commercial realtor thrives on the art of making
Stephanie ClineWhile majoring in English at Colorado College, Peter M. Scoville's interest in real estate seldom went beyond helping his friends hang drywall and renovate old homes. Scoville, who is 29, is now a broker associate at NAI Highland Commercial Group LLC. He also is the secretary on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Springs Realtors Commercial and Industrial Society and serves on the Board of Directors of The Peak Venture Group.
What attracted me to real estate is, first and foremost, I like the deal, the business transaction, Scoville said. He joined Highland Commercial in the spring of 2000. Scoville specializes in landlord and tenant representation.
His landlord clients have included companies such as Lowe Enterprises, Maier Siebel Baber and DPC Development. Scoville has worked as a tenant representative on behalf of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, The Davidson Companies, Adelphia Communications, Wachovia Securities, Keller Homes Inc. and others. Scoville said he likes being a problem solver for his clients and helping companies find real estate space.
I like playing a small part in shaping the development of the city, he said.
Scoville is from Boston, where he embraced a love of the outdoors. I went hiking a lot with my old man, he said. Scoville worked as a climbing guide during and after college, primarily at Mount Rainier near Seattle, and led trips into Alaska during his summer breaks. After college, I came back here because it's a nice place to live, Scoville said.
An admitted mountain biking and climbing addict, Scoville is happy to have the Rocky Mountains in the back yard. According to Scoville, working with Highland Commercial has given him the opportunity and time to pursue his interests. I was in Tibet in 2001. I was doing a trek into the north side of Everest. The cultural side of traveling is what keeps me going, he said. This business allows me to keep doing the stuff I enjoy.
Scoville also visits Boston every summer to play in the ocean. That city has one thing Colorado Springs cannot offer: water.
Scoville loves working in real estate for many reasons. It doesn't really matter how you define success. Success is about finding a balance in your life. He said he is grateful to be able to have time for family, activities and a career. Colorado Springs and this business allow me to have that balance, Scoville said. I'm doing what I wish I could do.
He plans to continue to work in the world of real estate and reap the benefits of variety. There's not one day that's the same, Scoville said. You're dealing with different people all the time.
