Compassionate conservatism

At the 109th Congressional Prayer Service from a Capitol Hill church in early January, members of Congress mentioned the deaths of Shirley Chisholm and Robert Matsui, as well as the toll from the Asian tsunami. Representative Tom DeLay, Republican of Texas, read Matthew 7:21-27, which compares anyone who does not obey God to "a fool who built his house on sand: The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew, and buffeted the house, and it collapsed and was completely ruined."
