Chenango Chamber opens entrepreneur center
Hadley, MarkNORWICH--Entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs in Chenango County now have a place to turn for advice, help, and resources--the Entrepreneur Center, created by the Chenango County Chamber of Commerce.
The center opened recently, marking the occasion with a forum for entrepreneurs. It featured information and education sessions designed to help make starting and running a small business a little easier.
Martha Brower, executive director of the Entrepreneur Center, says the grand-opening celebration drew more than 200 people, and more than 600 took advantage or The Entrepreneur Forum, marking the opening at Eaton Center in downtown Norwich.
The forum featured workshops by 11 sponsors, as well as on-going workshops throughout the day presented by the Small Business Administration, and five presentations by the Entrepreneur Center staff.
The center is offering educational programs. resources, advice, and other services for those who are thinking about starting their own business, who recently launched a business, or who are looking to improve the way they run their businesses, Brower reports. Already the center is running a series of classes for people who hope to start a business.
Currently, Brower and her staff are working with 12 entrepreneurs who are developing business plans. Brower adds that an average of 28 entrepreneurs a day call the center for help. The center also just finished a small-business education series of eight classes, which drew record attendence, averaging 19 participants per session.
Previously, the small-business education series was offered by the Chamber or Commerce itself.
The center offers: business education, business counseling, a computer lab to use in drafting a business plan, a conference facility, and a resource library--including video, audio, and printed materials.
The Chenango County Area Corporation is letting the center use the offices in Eaton Center for three years. The Apalachia Regional Commission donated funds to help with the center's start-up costs.
