What Are They Talking About?
Grandits, JohnWhen I look at a work of art I try to figure out what the artist is talking about. What story is he or she trying to tell me?
This artist is telling us about something in his everyday life-his job. You know he lives in the city because you can see the buildings through the window. But he's painting a picture of a cow. Maybe he is remembering growing up in the country.
I guess a lot of artists like animals.
This artist made a giant puppy statue out of flowering plants.
What do cats think about? This one has a little bird on her mind.
What a nice bunny. He looks so relaxed. I wonder why he didn't run away when the artist was drawing him.
This artist trains his puppies to pose. Then he and his models get to spend lots of time together making cool photographs.
Many artists like to show people. And there are a lot of different ways to do it.
This man and woman are very real looking. You can tell they're farmers. There is a farmhouse with a barn behind them. And he's holding a pitchfork! But they don't look very happy.
You wouldn't mistake this fellow for a real person. But he sure looks happy! Maybe he's telling the artist a knock-knock joke.
Sometimes artists just like to make up what they're painting. This man has a pickle instead of a nose. What other vegetables and fruits can you find hidden in the art?
If you look carefully at this painting, you see a story about what's happening in a neighborhood and the people who live in it.
This couple is taking their baby for a ride in a carriage.
A little girl is bouncing a yellow ball.
Time to take the dog for a walk.
A woman is bringing home some groceries. Even on a nice day your family has to eat.
Look in the windows.
Can you find the family having dinner?
The man on crutches?
A woman holding a baby?
A lot of people are just hanging around on the front steps and talking to their friends.
