As photographers, we take pictures for ourselves first, but sometimes we like to share them with others or receive credit, so we enter the competitions sponsored by our local camera club or PSA. If we receive positive feedback, we typically attempt to have our images published or exhibited to a larger audience.

This book gives us all we need to know to get published on a local or national level; it is a yearly publication, so the data is completely updated before going to press. The listing is comprised of magazines, book publishers, advertising agencies, stock agencies and galleries. In each case, detailed information about the policies of the various businesses and how to apply to them are given. The variety of available sources may well be surprising. How many of us realize for example, that magazines cater to such varied interests as plumbing, greyhound racing, fire protection, bee-keeping, well-digging and window construction?

The tips on "Just Getting Started" and "Getting Down to Business" are particularly interesting and useful for the novice. The section on "Making the Transition from Film to Digital" allows us to see how the world of photography is changing. We can send our images to the neighborhood newspaper, across the country or even around the world in an instant. Virtually all the listings give e-mail or website information. We can truly be "plugged in" to the global marketplace.
