Club Judging Service

The Color Slide Division offers Club Judging Service for those clubs interested in using such a service. This service is particularly suited to unique event judgings, such as year-end or special occasion competitions. The service may also be used to compare in-house judging efforts with external services that, in some ways, may be more objective.

Directed by Robert Sonnen, the Club Judging is available to all PSA member camera clubs. A very small service fee of $3.50 (payable to PSA) is required to make the service self-supporting.

The service works as follows. About eight weeks before a club wishes to show the competition results, it makes a written request for the name of a judge to the Services Director:

The request should state the number of slides involved and the date they are ready to be judged. The type of event and show date for the results should be included with the request.

At this point Director Sonnen will locate a judge and, in mm, will notify the applying club. The club then sends the slides to the judge, together with a listing of the included units (in order, and with title and maker). The club should advise how the slides are to be ranked and how many acceptances are desired. If critiquing is important, a 90-minute tape should be sent along with the slides for this purpose. Return postage must be included. Customarily, the club sends a note of thanks to the judge, with a copy to Director Sonnen.

Judging the work of others is not only fun, but is also a rewarding event. If you are experienced in judging photographs and can devote a little time to putting that qualification to work, you can benefit a great number of fellow photographers by offering your services.
