1807 House Now Part of Museum
The Genesee Country Village & Museum (located about twenty miles from Rochester, New York, and featured as the site of next spring's 2002 Annual Meeting) has just acquired a new building. The 1807 house, located just a mile from the Museum, dates from the first decade of settlement in the area.
Although considerably modified over the years, the original structure has survived remarkably unchanged, including 70% of the original clapboards. Plans are to reconstruct the house at the Museum as an exhibit showing the tools and techniques of early house construction. Different parts will be finished to different degrees so visitors can see the process from the bare framing to finished work. Unfortunately, the exhibit will be only a work in progress next spring.
