Swinton gets top story

Nate Swinton, a senior at Santa Clara University, has been honored as the 2002 recipient of the national News Story of the Year Award given by the Associated Collegiate Press. The competition, co- sponsored by the Los Angeles Times, recognizes initiative and original reporting of stories affecting students. Swinton, editor in chief of the student newspaper, received the award at the Associated Collegiate Press annual conference held recently in Orlando, Fla. Swinton, a 1999 graduate of Ferris High School, is the son of Duane and Jan Swinton of Spokane.

Air Force Airman Eric Turner, a 2002 graduate of Deer Park High School, has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Turner is the son of Jeff and Debbie Turner of Deer Park.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Eric Ponozzo has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Ponozzo, the son of Lori Ponozzo of Spokane, is a 1999 graduate of Central Valley High School.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Robert Anderson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Anderson, a 2001 graduate of Davenport High School, is the son of Dean and Cathy Anderson of Davenport, Wash.

Army Pvt. Michael Green has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Green, a 2002 graduate of Ferris High School, is the son of Don Green of Spokane.
