Year 2000 CSD Photo Essay Contest

Do you have an idea for a Photo Essay? Why not get it ready and enter it in the New Millennium's CSD Photo Essay Contest? The entry form appears on page 49 of this Journal. Deadline for entry forms is June 1, 2000. Last year's winner was a first-time entrant ... so you have as good a chance as anyone to win this fun contest!

First Prize is $50. Three medals will be awarded and, of course, CSD Star Ratings credits will be given. As time allows, most of the winning entries will be shown at the Annual PSA Conference in Albuquerque this fall. And, win or not, you will have your slides in a presentable format to share with friends, family and area organizations.

Subject matter can be anything. An original way of presenting your story might help to make your essay a winner. Remember: 25 to 80 slides, with a time limit of 15 minutes. A few pointers: The essay may or may not have an audio tape accompaniment, but will probably do better if it does. Such tape could have narration, musical background or both. Timing should be such that each slide will have a screen presence of from 5 to 10 seconds. I will be happy to answer any requests for advice. Divisional Services: Exhibition Slide Sets

Newly Adopted Salon Standards

All of you who are salon exhibitors will be happy to know that the Exhibition Standards Committee and PSA Executive Committee have approved the availability of a second section for the CSD. Starting this year, sponsors of PSA-CSD sanctioned salons will have the opportunity to offer two sections, General and Creative, in lieu of combining the two as in the past.

Under the new rules, a sponsor may elect to change one of the above sections to a restrictive section limiting that section to one category of subject matter, such as portraiture or landscape.

This means that if a sponsor so chooses, an exhibitor may enter up to eight slides, four in each section. As some sponsors elect to add another section to their salon, exhibitors will have more chances for acceptances toward star ratings and sponsors will have additional income to help keep the salon in good financial condition. We feel that everyone comes out ahead with this change.
