LC grad Greg Johnson elected to Phi Beta Kappa
Compiled by Mike JohnsonGreg Johnson, son of Stephen and Jean Johnson, Spokane, has been elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest national academic honor society.
Johnson, a National Merit Scholar and Washington Scholar who graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1998, recently graduated cum laude from Whitman College.
Army Sgt. Sevren Lobe has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal. The medal is awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.
Lobe, an armament and electrical repairer, is assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 4th Cavalry Regiment, Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii.
A 1996 graduate of Royal City (Wash.) High School, Lobe is the son of Larry Lobe of Spokane, and Nola Cronkite, Othello, Wash.
Army Pvt. Michaela Hoban, daughter of Karen Taylor and Joseph Hoban, both of Spokane, graduated from basic training at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo.
Hoban, a 2002 graduate of Ferris High School, is attending the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, Calif.
Army Pfc. Holly Vanwert, a 1996 graduate of Mead High School, has graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Vanwert is the daughter of Gail Montgomery and Dick Vanwert, both of Spokane.
Pfc. Joseph Dunsmoor graduated from basic training at Fort Knox, Ky. A recipient of the Draper Leadership Award, Dunsmoor graduated with top honors as first in his class. A 1995 graduate of Shadle Park High School, Dunsmoor is the son of Anita Richardson of Spokane, and the late Steve Dunsmoor.
Army Pvt. James Bonnington has graduated from the parachute rigger course at the 262nd Quartermaster Battalion, Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va. A 2000 graduate of Ephrata High School, Bonnington is the son of Tom and Colleen Bonnington of Ephrata, Wash.
Army Pvt. Marc Hillhouse graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Hillhouse, the son of Kirk Hillhouse, Spokane, is a 2001 graduate of Mead High School.
Army Pvt. Timothy Barney has graduated from the integrated family of test equipment operator and maintainer advanced individual training course at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala. Barney is the son of Jerrie Abraham of Albany, Ore., and William Barney of Loon Lake, Wash.
A $1000 scholarship from the Washington State Patrol Troopers Association has been awarded to Kerri Fenn. Fenn is the daughter of David and Kelly Fenn, Deer Park. A 2002 home-school graduate, Fenn now attends Spokane Falls Community College.
Rachae Thomas has been awarded a $350 Willard A. and Anne W. Brown Music Scholarship and a $240 Choral Department Scholarship. Thomas, a senior studying music at Western Washington University, is the daughter of Carra Cozza and Guy Thomas of Otis Orchards.
