Global One
Michael BeckerAlso up in the air is the fate of Global One, the partnership between Sprint, Deutsche Telekom and France Telecom to offer long distance services globally. When the merger was announced, MCI WorldCom President Bernard Ebbers and Sprint CEO William Esrey said either Sprint or MCI WorldCom would purchase Global One, which has offices in 18 Latin countries. The alliance markets its services through either local telecoms or businesses, throughout the region.
In September 1999, it installed 12 switches (7 in Brazil, and one each in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela) to handle more traffic. Global One also owns three satellite earth stations in Chile, Colombia and Venezuela.
