Your letters: Containing this terrible disease
James McGowanIN THESE dark days for the agricultural industry, every citizen throughout the land, north and south, must do everything in their power to prevent the spread of the dreaded foot-and-mouth disease.
The harrowing pictures of the seemingly endless slaughter of livestock is frightening, but thankfully in their darkest hours the farmers realise that these measures are a necessary evil in the continuing fight against the disease.
Also, in relation to the compensation factor for farmers, let's hope the governments not only give them the asset value of their flocks but also compensation for loss of earnings as these people will be affected for months and months ahead.
