Michelle: Your Letters: BBC bomb blast gives Real cause for concern
T ClarkeTHE Sunday Mirror warned last week that IRA rebel bombers were about to strike... and the paper was correct.
The Province escaped in this latest incident as London bore the brunt of the bomb blast which rocked the BBC Television Centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The attack bears all the hallmarks of the Real IRA, which, according to your paper, has a large bomb assembled and ready for an attack on an Ulster town.
Such a scenario occurring again in the Province really doesn't bear thinking about.
As politicians get down to the business of governing Northern Ireland, the Real IRA, which caused such carnage in Omagh, are, it seems, beginning to show their ugly faces once again.
God forbid, I don't want to tempt fate, but should such an incident occur it could have some severe repercussions.
Let's remember, terrorists of all persuasions are already out of jail roaming the streets, and their guns are at the ready (decommissioning has yet to take place). Any terrorist strike here at the moment could lead to reprisals and we're back to square one.
The RUC's role in all of this is just about gone, like the many senior members within the force. And as your paper again rightly points out, MI5 is taking on the role of the RUC Special Branch.
The whole situation doesn't fill law-abiding citizens with confidence.
