THE catastrophic outbreak of foot-and- mouth disease highlights one of the root causes of the decline of this country's farming industry - a disrespect for animals' lives. Instead of worrying about what such outbreaks cost us and the farmers, the experts ought to be finding new ways of preventing the suffering of these poor beasts in the first place.
