Irish air space is 'safest'
JAMES WALSHIRISH air space is the safest in the world despite 63 near misses since 2000.
Dublin Airport manager Eamonn McCabe, who claimed Irish aviators, said: "One thing we do not do here is make quick snap decisions.
"Everything is coordinated and if their is something that needs to be dealt with it will be done by the book.
"Dublin Airport is one of the busiest airports in Europe.
"In 2005, we controlled 186,831 aircraft into and out of the airport.
"On busy days, the controllers are handling up to 700 flights in a 24 hour period."
In 2004, the Irish Aviation Authority opened its new air traffic control centre in Ballycasey, Shannon. This system uses cutting edge technology and allows air traffic controller' to handle high traffic density.
