MITSUBISHI have yet again claimed victory in the tortuous Paris- Dakar rally. It marks Mitsubishi's record 11th win on the event and the first for Luc Alphand, a former downhill ski champion.

He was followed home by the VW Touareg Giniel de Villiers and a second Mitsubishi of Joan Roma.

The event was marred by the deaths of two spectators, both young boys, in separate incidents while Australian Andy Caldecott was killed when he came off his KTM motorcycle while in IQth place.
