Letter: Disgraceful cost of hospital calls
Mrs R. Hardypounds 100 LETTER
MY friend who has cancer is in a hospital in Liverpool, and because I can't visit her often I have been phoning her.
I was shocked at how much I have been paying - it costs more than it does to call my parents in Spain. The hospital even charges for watching TV and DVDs.
Your paper was spot on to state this practice is deeply distasteful. The price of an average peak rate BT call is 8p a minute. Yet these private companies licensed by health care trusts charge as much as 49p a minute. How heartless can the people responsible for this outrageous service be?
