C&OHS progress
Dixon, Thomas W JrFor the first time in almost ten years we are doing a membership survey, which you will find inserted in this issue. PLEASE FILL OUT BOTH SIDES AND RETURN. By analyzing the results, we will be able to better understand the needs and interests of members, so that we can better aim our efforts in producing the Magazine and in other aspects of the Society. Last time we were able to get an over 50% response, and we're shooting for at least that this time. Here is a great opportunity for you to tell us what you think ... and we will be listening! Information will be distributed in tabular format, and personal information given will not be released (but it will help us understand the demographics of the membership). Thanks for your help in this.
I hope that you have had a chance to consider the new BERWIND HOPPER offer. This was a great idea offered by member David Wetterstroern during the Hawks Nest meeting. Few C&O coal trains before 1959 would have been without some of these cars.
Conference flyers are in this issue as well. Conference chairman Todd Nystrom has put together an excellent set of activities, and I hope that everyone will consider the trip to Cincinnati. This year we have eliminated the model contest, and we're asking modelers who attend to bring as many projects as they can, complete or in progress. The Hawks Nest meeting brought forth far more models than have been shown at any recent regular conference. Let's see how good a show we can make of it this year! Tours of Cincinnati Union Terminal and Queensgate Yard are highlights of the trips planned. I look forward to seeing you there.
Our new editor, Father Sam Scott, will be taking over shortly (he will introduce himself next month), with a primary thrust of getting more people involved in preparing articles. This is a chance for everyone to share their knowledge, photos, and other information about any aspect of the C&O/HV/PM. Getting articles, always a problem, has become almost impossible in recent times, and the board encourages everyone to think about trying. If you don't have all the data you think you need, contact the archives, and we'll try to find it in the collections. Thanks for everyone's continued fine support of the Society.
