Motive power news
The new General Electric AC6000ACs (CSXT class CW60AC) continue to enter service. As of April 17th, up to engine number 649 are in service. On April 1, Nos. 645-646 went south on Big Sandy with Q691. The same day, Matt Crouch saw Nos. 629-630 at St. Albans, W.Va. These engines handled a Pike 29 Shifter out of Shelby on April 4th.
On March 12th, Jim Whitten observed AC4400CW class engine 1 and SD70MAC class engine 700 with a train on Big Sandy.
On April 4th, HLCX "SD40M-3" 6513 was spotted at Shelby. This unit is an upgraded SD45 of unknown heritage. It was in the Helm Leasing red and blue paint scheme. As of April 17th, HLCX units 6500-6525 excluding 6504 and 6518 are on CSXT. Most are on former L&N lines on the western side of the system.
Through early April, K869 molten sulphur trains continued to operate from Chicago to Mulberry, Fl., via the C&OBU from Fostoria, Oh., to Elkhorn City, Ky. These trains have two Soo Line SD60 or SD60M engines and operate in each direction about twice a week. Their presence may be short lived, as I was advised by a railroad employee that they were probably detoured because of curfews on the western side of the system.
