C&OHS progress

Dixon, Thomas W Jr

On the opposite page you will find an introduction by our new Coordinating Editor, Sam Scott. His job will be made much easier if he can hear from many of you with your comments, suggestions, and most importantly your articles or article proposals, or requests for help on articles. When he says he is at your service, this is heartfelt. We have a huge resource of raw data that can be used to support many of the article ideas you may have. Give it a try!

The BERWIND hopper cars are here. If you haven't ordered them, I recommend you do so as soon as you can. Remember, they were very common in C&O coal trains going east and west out of the New River fields in the 1940s and 1950s. Their history also makes them good conversation pieces. The Atlas hoppers are now expected in July ...finally. Since we were able to increase the order, we still have some remaining, but even they are going fast, so put in your order today if you haven't already. The numbers are all new, never before run by anyone.

We announce our first N-gauge project this month, and several HO projects are in process. By July or August we should have our special issue of the Life-Like Proto 2000 GP30s, so take a look at the flyer this month and get your order in early if interested. This is an expensive project and we need to get to the break even point as soon as we can.

We invite everyone to the Conference, August 11-14 at Cincinnati. I believe it will be one of our best, and it is the first time we've been there for over a decade. The programs and trips are going to be excellent. AND PLEASE BRING YOUR MODELS. Bring projects both complete and in progress and show them off. There will be no contest this year, just an open house to show others what you're doing and talk about the different approaches and ideas in modeling.

We are an historical organization, but because so large a proportion of our members are modelers we intend to do whatever possible to help them in their efforts ... this is enlightened self-interest, since we make money on most of these efforts and therefore the Society is helped as well. Please support our projects as you can. I think they are all win-win situations.
