Before the invention of the camera in France in 1827, only wealthy individuals could hire an artist to paint their portrait. Today, all six billion inhabitants of this planet can be photographed through cell phones and satellites, and these photos instantly downloaded onto the Internet. The camera has become far more common than the paintbrush, but photography remains an art form.

In this issue we learn interesting things about photography. We learn about the technology--film development (pages 6-7); camera obsura (page 12-13); and a person as a camera (page 14).

We learn about children photographing their surroundings (pages 8-11, 15, 19); children writing a story about a photograph (pages 20-23); and teens using photography for peace-building (pages 16-18).

We hope this issue will widen your perspectives and make you feel like an artist the next lime you pick up your camera and take a snapshot.
