Fatboy Slim. - Review - sound recording review
Jeff JohnsonHalfway Between the Gutter and the Stars (Astralwerks)
For someone who wants to get back to making music that makes asses shake, and not for teen movie soundtracks, Fatboy Slim does neither on Halfway. It is an uninspired K-tel-style buffet of a fake gutter and phony stars. Macy Gray's collaboration on "Demons" is about as jiggy as Mary J. Blige hooking up with Lindsey Buckingham for a slow jam. When the from-the-grave musings of dimebag philosopher Jim Morrison (on "Sunset (Bird of Prey)") are the best thing a record has going for it, uh, yikes.
