Globe trotter
Jessamine ChinStudents from the Writers in the Schools program wrote narratives in reaction to photographs taken by photographer Karen Sachar in Israel, Ethiopia and the Dominican Republic. The responses on these pages were written by 5th graders at Shlenker School in Houston, Texas. The photographs form the exhibit "Universal Language of Children", which was created in a collaboration between Sachar, the children of the Chicano Family Center, and Ed White Elementary School.
Let's see what you have to say about one of the images.
Choose one of the pictures and use your imagination to create a character for the person in the print. Once you give the person a name, take on his/her point of view. Write a short story, poem or skit from the first person, 'T' perspective. Once you've written a response, share it with your family and friends. Next time, ask a friend to participate. See if you and your friend come up with similar stories.
