Rugby Union: Love-Lee jubbly for ace Jarvis; PONTYPRIDD 40 GLASGOW
DENNIS JAMESLEE Jarvis gave Pontypridd a flying start to their Cup campaign with an outstanding individual display at Sardis Road.
The Welsh-Scottish League strugglers put a recent dismal run on the back burner to destroy the Reds in the second half.
Mercurial fly-half Jarvis finished with 25 points as he converted all four Ponty tries, one of them his own, and landed four penalties.
Glasgow went into the lead in the fourth minute with a 38-metre penalty from outside half Tommy Hayes.
Within minutes Jarvis responded with an easy 22-metre kick in front of the post.
Ponty were having the better of the exchanges and in the 11th minute Jarvis edged his side ahead with a 38-metre goal.
Glasgow replied with another Hayes penalty.
Pontypridd returned on the offensive and took the lead with a gem of a try from Aussie lock Brent Cockbain after slick handling by the backs. Jarvis converted.
Hayes slotted over his third penalty in the closing stages of the half. Hayes and Jarvis again exchanged penalties that resulted in a 16-12 interval lead to Ponty.
After the break Hayes cut the deficit to one point in the eighth minute with his fifth penalty. Within minutes Jarvis banged over his fourth penalty for Ponty.
After this Glasgow's Stewart Campbell was yellow-carded.
Ponty increased their lead with a superb touchdown. Jarvis broke inside the 22 to send Paul John under the posts, and Jarvis converted. Then Hayes struck his fifth penalty.
But the dismissal of Glasgow lock Stewart Campbell to the sin-bin for deliberate off-side in the 59th minute changed the course of the game.
In the last quarter Ponty cut loose.
First Lenny Woodard crossed at the corner and Jarvis converted.
Then Jarvis left the defence helpless to sprint over halfway out.
Near the end centre Alan Bulloch crossed for a late Glasgow consolation try that Hayes converted.
