I am so in love with my pretty (older) woman
EXCLUSIVE By COLIN WILLSNO doubt about it, Edna Martin says. This is a true love story. Just as true and passionate - more so - than anything you'll see acted on screen.
One of the great romances of our time, in fact.
Edna doesn't care what people think. So what if she's a gran of 70 and a bus pass holder? And her new husband Simon is 31? Love doesn't keep a calculator, does it?
They're on honeymoon in a caravan near Truro in Cornwall, the only one on the site as it happens. The night-time noise has scared everyone else off, I suppose, I say.
"Cheeky bugger," replies Edna.
"Funny you should say that, though," she goes on. "We haven't been able to keep our hands off each other since we've got here.
"We've done nude photography, we've been dancing naked in the moonlight. The usual sort of things that newlyweds do."
Make no mistake, there might be a 39-year age gap, but they're at it like knives.
Edna and Simon even agreed to act out their favourite love scenes for Sunday Mirror readers.
But it's hard to know what to expect when you first meet them. Is Edna an insatiable toyboy predator? Is Simon after her money? Edna laughs: "Money? You must be joking. Neither of us has got a penny - we're together because we care for each other."
And the romance is completely sexy. All the time we are talking, Simon caresses Edna's leg. He says: "I do it firstly because I like the feel of it. Secondly, because I love the noise she makes. It's like a destroyer's siren. It goes, 'Whoop, whoop, whoop'."
Like the best romances, it was love at first sight. Edna was in a concert audience when organist Simon started to play. "I thought, 'What a lovely man'," she says.
And after a courtship of two-and-a-half years, Simon finally proposed... on St Valentine's Day under Weston-super-Mare pier.
They got married last Friday... and are already a wise couple. They know about the sniggers behind hands and funny looks.
But they also know age is just a date on the calendar when you are really and truly in love.
