CHEESED OFF
ALASTAIR ROBERTSONA PLAY inspired by the aphrodisiac qualities of a cheese from the Hebridean island of Islay has been banned from a village church hall - because posters advertising it are too raunchy.
Publicity for the new feel-good comedy, Hard Pressed, features a lacy red bra swelled by the curves of two rounds of Islay Dunlop Cheddar.
The play, commissioned with a pounds 57,000 Scottish Arts Council grant for the Highland Festival 2000, had been due to go on at Portsoy Church Hall in Banffshire, but hall convener Peter Tough was concerned the poster might offend people.
He said: "I've got to take into account the wellbeing of the church. It's not a public outcry or anything like that."
But folk will still be able to see the play because it is being switched to another local venue.
