ANDY BUTLER sent Scunthorpe United top of League Two with the only goal of a hard-fought game at Glanford Park.

Butler headed home his fourth goal of the season 12 minutes from time as the Iron took over at the top from Swansea, whose game was postponed.

The Iron ended Yeovil's run of having scored in every League game this season.

Yeovil almost shocked the home side inside the first two minutes, when Andrejs Stolcers' shot was blocked by keeper Paul Musselwhite.

But the Iron could have gone in front with their own early chance, only for Butler to head over from a corner from Ian Baraclough.

Scunthorpe were not looking like a side who had won five of their seven home games this season, with the Glovers seeing plenty of the ball in the first-half.

Yeovil's Darren Way saw a shot blocked by Butler, before Scunthorpe's Musselwhite pulled off a save from Phil Jevons' curling cross-shot.

The Iron had to make an unscheduled change when Cleveland Taylor hobbled off after half an hour, with Matthew Sparrow replacing him.

Scunthorpe came out for the second-half with all guns blazing, and Sparrow was just wide with a shot before going close from a Peter Beagrie cross.

Richard Kell was involved at both ends just after the hour, as the game remained evenly balanced. First the Scunthorpe man saw his shot saved by Chris Weale, then a minute later he blocked a Paul Terry drive.

Scunthorpe finally broke through when they won a corner on the left and Beagrie delivered the perfect cross to Butler, who powered a header past Weale.

Kell was only an inch away from a second goal two minutes later when his shot beat Weale, but hit the frame of the goal.
