Some have already broken New Year's resolutions, but others are

Hannah Owen, Danielle Neely

Recently the Deseret Morning News team of teenage Pulse reporters asked their fellow students, "Have you already broken your New Year's resolution, and what was it?"

"No, not yet. It was to eat healthier and lose some weight." -- Jessica Burnham, senior, Bingham High School

"I never make New Year's resolutions, because I know I'm going to break them anyway. If I had made one this year, it would've been to stop complaining so much. I'd have already broken it, too." -- Caitlyn Bartsch, sophomore, East High School

"My New Year's resolution was to be healthier -- eat healthier, exercise more, etc. And while I've been brushing my teeth better, I did eat a burger. I don't know if that's breaking my resolution, though. I think that a hamburger every now and then can be a healthy thing. Maybe I'm just in denial." -- Hilah Lowenstein, junior, West High School

"Yes. My New Year's resolution was to focus on the positive sides of life to avoid a relapse." -- Nick Kelly, senior, Bingham

"I gave up soda pop, and 10 minutes later I drank some, and didn't realize it for an hour afterwards. So now my resolution is to drink less soda. " -- Sam Helgren, junior, Lutheran High School

"I didn't make any, that way I can't break them." -- Jon Cook, junior, East

"My resolution was to stop procrastinating. A day later when my parents asked me to clean my room, I said, 'I'll do it later, maybe.' Guess I broke that one." -- Bentley Clark, junior, West

"I don't make New Year's resolutions." -- Sydney Lopez, junior, Kearns High School

"I vowed to not drink caffeine at all this year, and I'm on day 10!" -- Krissy Kagie, senior, Bingham

"I made one New Year's resolution: to be more helpful around the house. I vaguely remember sitting on the couch and my mom asking me to help out, rolling my eyes and begrudgingly going upstairs. I guess that constitutes breaking it, but I still went upstairs." -- Reese Quayle, junior, AMES High School

Hannah Owen is a junior at West High School, Danielle Neely is a junior at Kearns High School and Kristin Nielson is a senior at Bingham High School. All are members of the Deseret Morning News Pulse team of high school writers.
