State conventions - ROAL President's Message - Editorial
Steven J. FordPlease make every effort to attend your state convention. This is your organization, you pay dues and you need to let your officers know what you expect from ROAL and what you would like to see for its future.
Some important issues that will be brought up in Salt Lake City are: New Membership Category for ROA. This has been highly published and I urge you again to understand this and discuss this with your ROA people. ROA will be voting on this at convention and it will affect ROAL but I believe in a positive way. We may not be able to vote on this issue, as ROAL members, but we do have a certain influence on those that can.
Another issue will be whether some ROAL Awards, such as the Mary Dunaway Award are recognizing the accomplishments of those deserving of this most prestigious award. We still need to work on communicating. Your Area Directors and other officers are there for a reason. Communicate with them and urge them to communicate with National Officers. Don't let a good idea die from lack of a phone call, stamp or e-mail.
Remember that by laws changes should be submitted no later than May 11, 20004 to the By laws Committeeman, Teresa Huber, 6 Essex Ct. Lake Oswego, OR 97034-7306.
Again I will repeat my plea for DEE State conventions are a good time to raise money for DEF or what ever projects you are supporting locally.
I will be attending the North Carolina stale convention in March and look forward to attending several others as time allows.
Membership, of course, is still a concern but I have received some encouraging reports of successful recruiting efforts. Keep up the good work. I was also happy to see some members at Mid-Winter who have not been around for a while but now have been able to dedicate some time to ROAL aim are ready to again lend their expertise.
I have found, as I am sure many others have, when you are involved in a great organization like ROAL, the time seems to go by very quickly. We are over halfway through this term and rapidly approaching National Convention. I believe we have accomplished a good deal but there is still much to do. Consider now if you would be able to take on the job of holding an office at the club or department level or ultimately at the national level. You do have something to contribute and we all need you to participate. Thank all for your efforts and please contact me if I can help in anyway and thank you for your encouragement.
