Why knock Welsh star Hopkins?
PAUL HORTONTHE brother of acting legend Richard Burton yesterday sprang to the defence of fellow Welshman Sir Anthony Hopkins. Graham Jenkins, 72, blasted the "small town moaners" who condemned Hopkins for becoming an American citizen. Angry people in Hopkins' home town of Port Talbot in South Wales are accusing the Oscar-winner of "forgetting his roots". And there are calls for him to be stripped of the honour of being made a Freeman of the steel town. Graham and his famous brother were brought up in the nearby village of Pontrhydyfen - and Burton stayed a proud Welshman. But Graham backed Hopkins saying: "I just want the moaners to shut up and appreciate what Anthony has done for his country. "It would be a sad day if they took away the freedom of the borough from him. "He has done so much for Wales including the pounds 1m donation to save Snowdon - that isn't the action of someone who doesn't love his country. "He has put the town on the map and is a terrific ambassador for Wales. "Sir Anthony must have his reasons for becoming a US citizen and I wouldn't criticise him."
