Footie fan is Mandy stand-in
PAUL WATSONLABOUR'S replacement for Peter Mandelson launched his MP election campaign yesterday - and then went off to watch football.
Local councillor Ian Wright, 32, will fight the Hartlepool seat in the autumn by-election caused by high-flying Mr Mandelson's new role as an EU Commissioner.
Mr Wright who lives in Hartlepool with wife Tiffiny and their three children, has vowed to keep his politics at grass-roots level. Less than 12 hours after his victory he was on the streets meeting voters - but was determined to see Hartlepool Utd in action with his son.
He said: "I have lived here all my life and I'm very proud of my town. Everyone has been saying they want a local person focusing on local issues. That's what I aim to do."
