Henpecked Steve's fright on the tiles

HENPECKED Steve Metcalf was trapped on a roof in a copycat incident to the one that killed entertainer Rod Hull.

Steve, who suffers from vertigo, was ordered by live-in girlfriend Donna Trundley to adjust their TV aerial so she could get a decent picture of her favourite soap, Emmerdale.

But while he was up there a thief stole his ladder - and Steve, 21 today, had to be helped from the roof of his home in Horden, Co Durham by firemen.

"I remember what happened to Rod Hull, but I was more worried about what Donna would do to me if she couldn't watch Emmerdale," joked Steve.

Hull, famous for his act with puppet Emu, was also adjusting his aerial during Manchester United's match against Inter Milan when he fell to his death.

Mother of two Donna, 24, was furious when she moved into her new home to find a fuzzy TV picture.

She said, "I'm soap mad. So when I found out our TV didn't work I told Steve he had to get on the roof or I'd kick him up there."

Steve, left clinging to the chimney stack for an hour, said: "I didn't think I'd make it to my 21st birthday today."

Donna added: "After all this, we still can't get a picture."
