Proverbs for the People - Book Review
Donia Elizabeth AllenTracy Price-Thompson and TaRessa Stovall wanted to create an anthology that featured both new and established voices. They also wanted to challenge writers to stretch their talents. After some creative brainstorming, the co-editors"asked a variety of writers to choose a proverb and bring it to life" and the anthology Proverbs for the People was born.
This particular anthology features short stories inspired by proverbs and written by emerging and established African American authors. Both the proverbs and the stories range from witty to wise, and reveal important truths about the world as experienced by people of African descent. Some of the stories suitably blend the wisdom of the proverbs and the story line. Overall, the collection brings together tan extraordinary collection of African and African American proverbs and a compilation of memorable, well-written stories inspired by them.
