Dining with distinction - Letters

My wife, Florence, and I sailed with Celebrity Cruises on the Millennium to celebrate our 49th wedding anniversary. Our travel agent suggested dining in the Olympic Restaurant for the special night

A smiling maitre d' ushered us to a table for two in this 134-seat specialty dining room on Plaza Deck 3. We entered through the forward part of the restaurant, which has original walnut paneling from the White Star ship Olympic, into a beautifully decorated dining room with a demonstration kitchen.

The first course was chosen from a selection of nine salads, soups, and appetizers (e.g., stuffed quail glazed with port jelly). The second course was from a selection of eight entrees (e.g., saltimbocca alla Romana). Each creative, delicious dish is prepared in the galley or at tableside with a very attentive waiter adding the finishing touches. The controlled flames leaped beside our table under the watchfulness of our diligent, highly skilled waiter. Soft piano and violin music added to the elegance of the evening in a French-type atmosphere with aqua and beige chairs, drapes, and walls. A variety of cheeses served with grapes and apples comprised the third course. The fourth course was a selection of five desserts (e.g., Waldorf pudding as served on the Olympic in 1914). With each course a suggested wine may be ordered by the glass. With more than enough to eat, our thoughtful waiter specially wrapped our candy to take to our stateroom.

Our leisurely three-and-a-half hour dining experience unveiled a distinctive method of culinary preparation and dedicated service. Truly, dining in the Olympic Restaurant was an extraordinary experience. Be assured the $25 per person service fee provided superb service and an unforgettable experience. What a wonderful, exquisite location to celebrate and remember our 49th wedding anniversary.
