Government Sites
Heidi LaFlecheConsumer Help
Historically, government Web sites have tended to be hard to find and confusing to use. Luckily, thats changing. The recently revamped FirstGov [firstgov.gov], your first click to the U.S. government, organizes sites around common tasks: Find national parks, apply for a passport, register to vote. You can also search for grants and apply for government jobs.
For the straight dope on scams, product recalls, and privacy issues, visit the Federal Consumer Information Center [pueblo.gsa.gov].
Education
The Library of Congress [loc. gov] has created a shining example of a government site done right. Its rich in research tools and exhibit highlights, and it has fun, stimulating content for children.
Smithsonian Institution [si.edu] is the best springboard to other national museums, but be sure to tour the site before departing.
Politics & Law
The White House: Government [whitehouse.gov/government] links to Cabinet members and other Bush administration VIPs. Aspire to join their ranks? Apply for presidential appointments online.
Connect with Congress at The United States Senate [www.senate.gov] and U.S. House of Representatives [www.house.gov]; track legislation at Thomas [thomas.loc.gov], named for the spirit of Thomas Jefferson.
