Supports wage increase
Robert FieldGood for [Jeff Higley] in calling for a higher minimum wage! ["There's nothing minimal about the wage issue, August issue, page 6].
Most hotel workers fall below the poverty line unless they share a household with another breadwinner who earns much more than they do. Even at $8 an hour, they can barely support themselves, let alone any children. And from our experience, it is a rare guest who even leaves a dollar for the room attendant. We talk about the importance of families and then deprive them of a living wage. If we all were required to pay $8 an hour, the difference would almost totally be reflected in the room rates. The customers wouldn't notice the $2 to $3 difference per day nor would we, but our workers sure would.
