2005 new products: manufacturers launch new business year, unveil latest products!

It's January, and the new year's business is in full Magnum mode. Manufacturers continue to debut new products at a rapid-fire pace, as they prepare for their grand premier at SHOT Show 2005.

NEW FIREARMS--2005

Smith & Wesson

Smith & Wesson's latest addition to its large-caliber X-Frame revolvers is the Model 460XVR (Extreme Velocity Revolver). Firing the new .460 S & W Magnum, Smith & Wesson reports the revolver delivers a muzzle velocity of 2,300 feet per second. Weighing 73 ounces and measuring 8 1/3 inches, the five-shot, single/double-action revolver features a stainless steel finish and interchangeable compensator.

The Model 990L pistol is available in two full-size versions chambered in .45 ACP, 9mm and .40 S & W, and a compact model chambered in 9mm and .40 S & W. The pistols feature a black polymer frame and Melonite stainless steel barrel and slide, and interchangeable backstraps.

From the Performance Center, the Model 945 .45 ACP features a competition match trigger with over-travel stop, micro-adjustable rear sight, Hogue black/silver checkered laminate grips and stainless steel, glass bead-polished finish.

Two Model 1911s are also available from the Performance Center. They feature Doug Koenig speed hammers, adjustable rear sights, and oversized external extractors.

Smith & Wesson, under a licensing agreement from Carl Walther GmbH, is now manufacturing the original Walther PPK in .380 ACP. The model is smaller and almost 3 ounces lighter than the PPK/S.

Smith also continues it successful collaboration with Crimson Trace. Models 410S, 432PD, 637, 1911 and 1911Sc are now available direct from S & W with Crimson Trace Wraparound Lasergrips.

Bushmaster Firearms Inc.

Bushmaster's Carbon 15 .22 Rimfire Rifle closely conforms to the look, feel and function of Bushmaster's traditional 5.56mm/.223 models. The upper and lower receivers, buttstock and charging handle are molded of Carbon Fiber 15 material. The lightweight rifle has adjustable sights, a Picatinny rail on the upper receiver and includes a 10-round magazine.

The Carbon 15 Type 21S pistol weighs less than 3 1/2 pounds and features a Quick Detachable Compensator; full-length, anodized aluminum Picatinny rail on the upper receiver; and adjustable sight. It comes with a 30-round magazine.

The Carbon 15 Type 97S pistol, with many of the same features at the Type 21S, has an auxiliary rail mounted to the underside of the foregrip.

Bushmaster now offers a dedicated .22 Rimfire Upper Receiver-Barrel Assembly that fits all Bushmaster lower receivers and other Mil Spec AR--15 lower receivers. Featuring blowback operation, the kit includes a 10-round magazine.

The Carbon 15 Model 4 Carbine features an Izzy compensator, telestock and is shipped with a 30-round magazine.

Rossi Firearms

Rossi's fully rifled slug gun is button rifled, equipped with factory porting and features TruGlo sights. The 12-gauge model has a drilled and tapped rail; the 20-gauge is drilled and tapped for installation of the included scope mount base.

Rossi's Heavy Barrel rifles feature button-rifled barrels, are hand-fitted and incorporated transfer bar technology and a manual safety. A scope mount base is included.

Rossi extends its Matched Pair line to include a .50 caliber muzzleloader and rifled-barrel slug gun in either 12- or 20-gauge.

FNH USA

FNH USA's five-seven USG semiauto in 5.7X28mm features a polymer frame, integrated accessory rail, reversible magazine release and textured grip. With a 4.82-inch barrel, it measures 8.2 inches in overall length and weighs 1.36 pounds. The single-action pistol comes with a 20-round magazine.

The FNP 40 features an ambidextrous manual decocking lever; reversible magazine catch; hammer-fired, double/single action mechanism, firing pin safety and optional magazine disconnect. It ships with three 14-round magazines.

The FNP 9 M compact pistol has a 3.8-inch barrel and measures 7 inches overall. It features an ambidextrous manual de-cocking lever, reversible magazine catch and hammer-fired DA/SA mechanisms.

Heckler & Koch

HK offers the USP 40, USP 40 Compact, USP 45 Tactical and Mark 23 in three new frame colors: desert tan, green and gray. They feature the H & K Hostile Environment finish on all metal parts.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the P7, HK is issuing a special edition P7M8. It has special engraving, checkered custom walnut grips and is packaged in a wooden presentation case, which includes a commemorative coin.

In June 2004, HK became the sole importer of Merkel long guns. For 2005, HK is introducing new features on the Merkel shotguns. These include side-by-sides with beavertail forends, interchangeable screw-in choke tubes, round-knob pistol grips and lighter style engraving.

The new Merkel Live Bird Gun and Heavy Duck Gun, both in 12-gauge, are available with 30- and 32-inch barrels.

Taurus International

The Taurus .44 Magnum Tracker has a 4-inch ported barrel, adjustable sights, Ribber grips and measures 8 3/4 inches overall. It is available in blued and stainless finishes.

Taurus is now shipping the PT 24/7 pistol, the Compact Millennium Pro in .45 ACP, the UltraLite .44 Magnum Hip Carry Revolver, and the single-action Gaucho in .45 LC.

Spartan Gunworks By Remington

Spartan's Model SPR210 Cowboy Action, side-by-side shotgun features an internal hammer; single-selective triggers; machined steel mono-block receiver; hammer-forged, chrome-lined 20-inch barrels and an automatic tang safety. It is available in 12- and 20-gauge versions.

The Model SPR220 cowboy action shotgun has a nickel receiver, double triggers, and screw-in chokes in 12- and 20-gauge versions, or a 12-gauge with fixed cylinder chokes, standard machined steel receiver and hardwood stock.

The Model 310 Sporting over-and-under, in 12- and 20-gauge, features hammer-forged and chrome-lined barrels, polished nickel receivers, selective ejectors and a single-selective trigger.

The Model SPR94 over-and-under shotgun/rifle combo is available in 12-gauge and .410 bore and a variety of centerfire and rimfire calibers. The seven combos feature hammer-forged, chrome-lined blued 24-inch barrels, double triggers, extractors and walnut stocks.

The Model SPR18 single-shot, centerfire rifle is chambered in .223 Rem., .243 Win., .270 Win. and .30-06 Sprg., and features hammer-forged, chrome-lined 23 1/2-inch barrels with spiral taper.

The Model SPR22 side-by-side rifles are chambered in .30-06 Sprg. and .45-70 Govt. They feature machined steel, mono block receivers, hammer-forged and chrome-lined 23 1/2-inch barrels, and double triggers.

Henry Repeating Arms

The Henry Big Boy is now available in .38/.357. The rifle features a 20-inch octagon barrel, American walnut stock, side ejection, sporting sights and a tubular feed design. The Big Boy, also available in .44 Mag./.44 Special and .45 Colt, features a brass buttplate, brass barrel band and solid brass receiver.

Savage Arms

Savage is introducing the Steven's Model 200 rifle. It has a gray synthetic stock, 22-inch blued barrel and a standard trigger. The stock is dual-pillar bedded, and the barrel is button rifled. It's available in five short-action and five long-action calibers.

Savage is chambering seven rifles in .17 Mach 2. Six of the models are Mark IIs, which feature gray laminate, black synthetic and wood stocks, and heavy and standard blued and stainless barrels. Also chambered in .17 Mach 2 is the Cub youth rifle, which has a wood stock and 16-inch blued barrel.

The Savage Model 12 Varminter Low Profile is now available in a left-hand model. A short-action rifle, it is offered in .223 Rem., .204 Ruger and .22-250 Rem.

The Savage Model 210FT Camo turkey gun is a 12-guage, 3-inch chambered shotgun/slug gun, with synthetic camo stock and a 24-inch barrel.

The Savage Model 14/114 American Classic Rifles feature Savage's new detachable box magazine, center-feed system. They have American walnut stocks and three-point checkering. The Model 14 American Classic, in short-action and long-action, is offered in six calibers. The Model 114 American Classic long-action is offered in four calibers.

The Model 40, with AccuTrigger, features a varmint style laminate stock and 24-inch, heavy contour, button rifled, free-floating, blued barrel. It's available in single-shot .22 Hornet.

Kahr Arms

Kahr's Model KP4543 lightweight, compact .45 ACP pistol features a textured black polymer frame and 3.54-inch, match-grade barrel. The matte stainless steel slide rides on special front and rear steel inserts. It weighs 17 ounces and measures 1 inch wide, 6.1 inches long and 4.8 inches high. The P45 comes standard with low-profile, white bar-dot combat sights; three-dot tritium sights are available as an option.

Legacy Sports International

Legacy new line Kahn line includes the Arthemis Elite Over/Under Field gun. It has a lightly engraved receiver, single-selective trigger and walnut stock. It's available in 12- and 20-gauge and .410 bore.

The Arthemis Elite Over/Under Deluxe models, in 12- and 20-gauge, feature polished select walnut stocks and ejectors. The 12-gauge Kahn Deluxe Clays model features a straight stock and a 14 1/4-inch length of pull.

The 12-gauge Kahn Deluxe Coach gun has a 20-inch barrel, ejectors and a polished select walnut stock.

For 2005, all Howa rifles have a new three-position safety. The Howa Lighting has an improved stock.

The 16-inch-barreled Puma Model 92 lever-action carbine features a large-loop lever in .357 Magnum and .45 Colt. Puma's .454 Casull and .480 Ruger carbines are now offered with 16-inch stainless steel barrels.

The Escort 20-gauge youth model semiauto has a 22-inch barrel. In Escort's pump-action shotguns, the 12-gauge Marine Guard models have 18-inch barrels, and Field Hunter models feature 26-inch barrels. Escort also has new slug semiautomatic and pump-action shotguns with cantilever mounts.

Other Escort additions are 12- and 20-gauge models with 26-inch barrels, a 20-gauge Turkey combo in Obsession camo with HiViz TriViz sights, 3 1/2-inch Magnums with 28-inch barrels, and 3 1/2-inch Magnum Turkey guns in Obsession with HiViz TriViz sights.

AMMUNITION--2005

Hornady Manufacturing

Hornady has applied its Super Shock Tip (SST) polymer technology to a shotgun slug. The SST Shotgun Slug promises sub-2-inch groups at 100 yards.

Hornady's TAP For Personal Defense ammunition is available in handgun, rifle and shotgun loads. The black, nickel-coated cases provide corrosion protection and aid feedings. Handgun loads are available in 9mm, .40 S & W and .45 ACP. Rifle cartridges are offered in .223 Rem. and .308 Win., and shotgun loads comes in 12-gauge buckshot.

Also new for 2005 is the .338 Lapua, 4.6mm HK, 6.8mm SPC, and TAP 6.8 SPC. In the InterBond line, Hornady adds the .458 Win. Mag., and .458 Lott, which feature a .45 caliber InterBond RN (round-nosed bullet). Reload bullets are also available.

Remington Arms

Remington's 6.8mm Remington SPC (Special Purpose Cartridge) is now available loaded with the 115-grain Core-Lokt Ultra Bonded bullet. Remington has expanded its line of Managed-Recoil centerfire rifle ammunition to include .300 Win. Mag. and .308 Win.

The Premier AccuTip is now available in .280 Remington, 140-grain, and the .22 Hornet is now loaded with a 35-grain AccuTip-V bullet.

Remington has added the .204 Ruger to its line of Premier AccuTip ammunition, with 32- and 40-grain weight bullets. Remington's Premier .17 Mach 2 rimfire, with a 17-grain AccuTip-V gold polymer-tipped bullet, offers muzzle velocity of 2,100 fps.

Premier Match ammunition now includes .223 Rem., 69-grain MatchKing. In the UMC line, Remington has expanded its offerings to include the 50-grain Jacket Hollow Point loadings of .223 Rem. and .22-250 Rem. cartridges.

The .45 GAP (Glock Auto Pistol) has been added to the UMC handgun ammunition line in 230-grain Metal Case and 230-grain Jacketed Hollow Point versions.

In shotgun ammo, Remington now offers the BuckHammer slug in a 20-gauge, 3-inch, 1-ounce version.

Remington introduces three pheasant hunting loads. The Nitro Pheasant high-brass loads deliver a 12-gauge, 1 1/4-ounce payload at 1,400 fps, and a 20-gauge, 1-ounce payload at 1,300 fps. Premier Magnum Pheasant loads are also offered in 12-gauge, 1 3/8-ounce and a 20-gauge, 1 1/4-ounce payloads.

Remington Pheasant Loads are available in 12-, 16- and 20-gauge, 2 3/4-inch. Remington Shur Shot High Base Pheasant is a value-priced heavy field load available in 12-gauge, 2 1/4-inch with a 1 1/4-ounce payload.

Remington Managed-Recoil BuckHammer is offered in a 12-gauge, 2 3/4-inch configuration, and is designed to cut felt recoil by 41 percent. Remington's Premier STS Low-Recoil is now offered in 12-gauge, #9 shot. In its Gun Club target loads, Remington has added a 7 1/2 shot size.

Sierra Bullets

The BlitzKing line now includes the .204 Ruger and other .20-caliber cartridges, such as the .20 Tactical. The #1032 BlitzKing is a 32-grain, flat-base bullet with Sierra's MatchKing jacket and a proprietary acetyl resin tip. The #1039 BlitzKing is a 39-grain, boattail bullet, which also has the MatchKing jacket and acetyl resin tip.

OPTICS & SIGHTS--2005

Simmons

Simmons' new Master Series of Aetec, ProHunter and ProDiamond models feature the TrueZero Adjustment System. It replaces the gimbal/biasing spring design with an erector tube attached to the scope's body. The system reduces point-of-impact shift and provides precise windage and elevation adjustments. The scope's redesigned windage and elevation dials reduce wear while maintaining reliability and accuracy.

The QTA (Quick Target Acquisition), Fast-Focus Eyepiece delivers a constant 3.75-inch eye relief, and in some models, up to 4 inches, while offering a larger eyebox. The scope's "true" one-piece main tube contains 30 percent fewer parts and weighs an average of 22 percent less than "our competitors' product." The Aetec and ProHunter Master Series scopes also feature a newly-designed side-focus parallax adjustments.

The scopes' lenses are coated with HydroShield, which disperses water and condensation, and SureGrip on rubber surfaces enhances handling.

Legacy Sports International

The Nikko-Stirling compact Reflex Red Dot sight, in 30mm and 40mm, features 10-step adjustments. For air rifles, Nikko-Stirling offers the Gold Crown Air King 2-7X32mm AO.

In the Diamond Sportsman models, Nikko-Stirling introduces the 6-24X42mm 1-inch SF; 10-50X60mm, 30mm MIL DOT AO; and 10-50X60mm, 30mm MIL NATO AO.

Equipped with illuminated reticles, the new Gold Crown Tactical scopes are: 3-9X42mm AO, 4-12X50mm AO, 4-12X50mm AO, and 6X24X50mm. All new Nikko-Stirling scopes are finished in matte black.

Crimson Trace

Crimson Trace's VF-302 Lasergrip attaches to a Picatinny Rail or Weaver mount as a foregrip. The unit's base is machined from aircraft grade 6061 aluminum and secured to the rail by a specially engineered mounting quick on/off system. The Lasergrip is activated by squeezing the grip. It is powered by two standard CR-2032 batteries with a four-hour run time.

ADCO

ADCO's PDPT tactical sight weighs 6 1/2 ounces and measures 5 inches long. It features a 35mm objective lens, 30mm rear lens, .75 MOA windage and elevation adjustments, flip-up lens covers, and is powered by a 2032 lithium battery. It has a 3 MOA dot size and a black-anodized finished.

Steiner Binoculars

Steiner has expanded its Merlin binocular line with two compacts (8X24mm and 10X26mm), and two full-size models (8X50mm and 10X50mm). The center-focus, roof-prism binoculars are waterproof and encased in dark, non-reflective, rubber-armored bodies. They feature fully multi-coated optics, with numerous applications of anti-reflective coatings on all air-to-glass optical surfaces. LaserMax

The LaserMax LMS-1202 Tactical Laser/Light combines a 5mW, high-visibility, pulsing red LaserMax laser sight with a tactical-bright, solid-state, white diode light in a compact unit. Designed for the Remington 870, 1100 and 11-87, the LMS-1202 clamps onto the forward portion of a two or more round magazine extension tube. The laser and light can be turned on and off manually; an optional remote activation switch provides momentary on/off.

The LMS-12 is drop proof, recoil proof, uses standard 10-year shelf life lithium batteries, and has a built-in battery test feature.

Carson Optical

Carson's latest additions to its XM Series are the 8X25mm and 10X25mm compact binoculars. They feature fully multicoated optics; BaK-4 glass roof prisms; ergonomic, rubberized finish; and twist-up eyecups. They have O-ring seals, are nitrogen filled and waterproof.

The field-of-view of the 10X25mm is 262 feet at 1,000 yards; the 8X25mm, 272 feet at the same distance. They weigh 12.4 ounces.

T.Z. Case's model TZ0052 case and TZ528 bowcase are crafted from ABS plastic and feature extruded aluminum frame molding; four stainless steel, draw style bolt latches; and a three-layer, high-density, protective foam interior.

The Cape Buffalo case is made of ABS plastic and features two air-tight latches, an air pressure release knob, formed casing and a custom-formed, high-density protective foam interior. It is available in three sizes.

Buck Knives

The Alpha Dorado models from Buck Knives are nearly 30-percent smaller than full-size Alphas. The wide, sculpted, modified drop-point blade is 2 1/2 inches long, and folds into a 4-inch handle. The blades are finished with Buck's Edge2X technology. The Model 270 Alpha Dorado has a 420HC stainless steel blade and a charcoal, resin-impregnated wood handle. The Model 271 blade is ATS-34 and the handle is rosewood.

Brownells

Brownells' Signature tactical gun cases feature carry handles that wrap around the bag, double-stitched seams and YKK zippers. The cases have heavyweight nylon outers and thick closed-cell foam-core padding cushions. They are available in a 38-inch Tactical Case (carbine size) and 46-inch Tactical Rifle Case.

Brownells' gun-specific cryogenically treated cutting tools use a "deep" cryogenic treatment process, which promises "increased durability and cutting performance." The first of the cryogenically-treated tools offered are the company's dovetail cutters.

Crosman Corp.

The Night Stalker is a C[O.sub.2]-powered, .177 caliber, single-action rifle featuring a 12-shot clip, 550-fps velocity and an ergonomically designed, synthetic stock. The blowback feature returns the bolt to the cocked position after each shot.

The Benjamin Legacy 1000, with a camo-patterned wood stock, is a spring air powered, .177-pellet rifle featuring single-shot action with 1,000-fps velocity.

The Quest Shooter's Kit includes the .177 Crosman Quest 1000 air rifle, a hard-sided rifle case, 4X32mm scope, 500 hollowpoint pellets, shooting glasses and 25 paper targets.

DMT's DuoSharp Plus Diamond Bench Stone combines the two-grit interrupted cut DuoSharp with a continuous diamond surfaced area (right-side of stone). BlackHawk's Tactical Thigh holster combines the SERPA Technology lock with a Picatinny Rail Accessory System. The injection-molded, fully adjustable drop-leg holster system features self-articulating, quick-disconnect, double non-slip leg straps and a non-slip backing on the platform. Panther Arms' 10- and 20-round steel magazines for the Panther LR-308s are made of heat-treated 1050 steel with a manganese phosphate finish. They feature a steel floor plate, spring and plastic follower. They will fit the Knight's Armament Co. SR-25.

The Danner 8-inch Desert Eagle GTX boot is built on the TFX platform, which incorporates an X-frame design. The Desert Eagle is water-resistant, and features rough out leather and a 1,000-denier Cordura nylon upper. It also comes with a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX liner. The Approach TFX outsole features triangle-shaped lugs. The Desert Eagle is available in men's sizes 7-12, 13, 14D and 8-12, 13EE.
