Thank you for your April 2001 article "Will We Ever Defeat Cancer?" Our daughter lost her battle with breast cancer last November after enduring almost three years of poison and burn treatments.

Two days after her 33rd birthday, she discovered a lump in her breast. For treatment she relied on the protocol of an oncologist who advised her not to take antioxidants while she was on chemotherapy. One year after being declared cancer-free, she was found to have metastatic cancer in her brain. Later, they found cancer in her liver, which shortly brought about her death.

I believe antioxidants would have assisted my daughter in combating the stress of her treatment. And more research should be done on the use of supplements and other mind-body techniques during chemotherapy and radiation therapy. When I think of my beautiful, healthy daughter being cut down in her prime while receiving what we thought were state-of-the-art treatments, I am furious.
