Submitting information to the Navy Supply Corps Newsletter

Linda Hall

Respondents to the Navy Supply Corps Newsletter Survey indicated people wanted to get more information on how to submit input for the Navy Supply Corps Newsletter. Here are the guidelines we have drawn up to help those interested providing information for publication in the Newsletter.

Submitting articles:

Approvals: All articles should be approved by the appropriate chain of command prior to submission.

Document set up in Word (or compatible program): No formatting other than one tab for each paragraph.

Margins--1" top, bottom, right and Left

Font--Times New Roman

Pitch--12 point

One Newsletter page including a title and one graphic or photo is approximately 600 words. We recommend articles be between 600 and 1,300 words. Longer articles may be accepted but readers are more likely to read shorter articles.

Point of contact: A fax number, e-mail, and posted address for the author or activity POC should be included with the package.

Byline: All articles require a byline. The byline should include the authors full name (with middle initial if there is one) and rank (if military), current job title and command. For military that are in a select status we will reflect current rank in the byline and select status in the bio.

Bio: A short, two or three sentence (approx. 50 word) bio of the author should be included with each article. The bio does not need to include the current job title as that will appear in the byline. The bio should include information about a person's career that the author would like to highlight and/or those things that lend credibility to what has been written. (Bios are not necessary for authors who are in the public affairs or journalist fields.)

Graphics: All graphics and photos should be provided as separate files not as part of the Word document. Charts and graphs should be PowerPoint files.

Photos: Prints made from film cameras (any size up to 8 x 10) are preferred but digital photos can be submitted. All individuals in a photo should be identified with full name and rank. There should also we a brief description of what is in the photo.

Digital Photos should be 300 DPI (approximately 5 x 7 at pixel size 2,000 x 1,200) and submitted as .jpg or .tif files. These high-resolution specifications give the best reproduction in the print media.

Transmitting articles: Submit articles via e-mail or postal mail to: e-mail address: linda_j_hall @navsup.navy.mil

Medals and qualifications:

Submit medals and qualifications for those you supervise by e-mail to linda_j_hall @navsup.navy.mil. For medals, include the person's rank, full name, medal (including number of awards), position/billet for time the award covers, command, and time period the award covers (from month, year to month, year). For qualifications, include the qualification; person's rank, first name and last name; and command. Be sure to indicate USN or USNR for medals and quals.

If you are submitting a medal or qualification for yourself the citation or memorandum needs to be faxed to (717) 605-6388.

Blue "E" Photos:

If your Supply Department has received the Blue "E" for Supply Excellence, submit a photo using the guidelines for photos described above in the Submitting articles section. Photos should be accompanied by a description identifying key personnel. If it is a small group and all individuals are identified, first and last name and rank/rate should be used for officers and enlisted.
