Flak Jacket for Top Brass - Year 2000 Legal Protect service - Industry Trend or Event
John KerrA strategic consulting service launched this summer is set up to act as senior management's armor against litigation.
Called Year 2000 Legal Protect, the service is targeted at legal counsel, CFOs, CIOs, corporate auditors, and other top brass who want to assess the legal risks and to document due diligence in addressing software and embedded systems remediation.
The program comprises a two- to three-week consulting engagement that identifies and quantifies Year 2000 risks using the Think 2000 risk-based analysis tool from Thinking Tools Inc. (The program results from a partnership between Thinking Tools, Productivity Solutions Inc. (PSI), Y2K analyst William Ulrich of Tactical Strategy Group Inc., and Steven Hock of law firm Thelan, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges LLP.) The service includes four steps: a legal review; risk model development; recommendations in a report; and technology transfer to in-house staff.
Results and recommendations from the program help organizations decrease liability claims made by customers, shareholders, suppliers, and third parties. The program also provides ongoing tracking of liability exposure as conversion, testing, implementation, and contingency planning efforts continue.
"The communications gap between IT and legal departments at major corporations has been a very real obstacle in reducing Year 2000 legal risks," says Hock.
