During month of July, life is one big Party in the Park
MATTHEW SIMMONS, THE GAZETTEConfluence Park.
Maybe you've heard about it. Maybe you've glimpsed it over your shoulder while driving over the Colorado Avenue or Cimarron Street bridges.
City park and rec folks are hoping to introduce the new park to a larger segment of the community this summer with Party in the Park, a series of visual arts and musical performances July 9 to 23.
"The idea was to bring arts and cultural activity in Confluence Park," says Amy Cox, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services community relations analyst. "The purpose is to attract residents and visitors to this new park, and we're helping to build exposure and awareness for the local arts community."
Party in the Park events will feature an art and farmers market each Saturday, performances by the Pikes Peak Blues Community and entertainment by the Manitou Art Theater, among others.
The event is sponsored by the City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, the Pikes Peak Community Foundation, the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado, the Bee Vradenburg Foundation and the Colorado Springs Community Action Network.
For more details about the Confluence series, keep an eye on upcoming GO! calendars. Organizers haven't firmed up show times.
