Recommended guide in Egypt
Paul LambertIn February '04 we made the trip of a lifetime to Egypt, using the excellent services of Ibrahim Morgan, whom we found through recommendations in ITN, For travelers like us who prefer independent travel, the use of a private guide and driver and van was perfect.
The reasonable cost of $2,500 each included visas; airport transfers; flights within Egypt; eight 5-star-hotel nights; a felucca sailing on the Nile; a 4-night Nile cruise on a 5-star boat; a private driver and van in Cairo, Aswan and Luxor; all sightseeing and admissions, including three sound-and-light shows, and Ibrahim's guide services for the full 12 days. All breakfasts were included as well as all meals on the cruise.
We arranged for our own international flights to and from Cairo. All other arrangements were handled by Ibrahim. The arrangements were top quality with the exception of one hotel which I chose. (In Aswan, I recommend staying in a hotel other than the New Cataract Hotel. You should follow Ibrahim's suggestion.)
Ibrahim is an intelligent, well-educated young man. He has a master's degree in Egyptology, reads hieroglyphics and speaks fluent English. His guide service has been used by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. He is a Coptic Christian.
We always felt safe with Ibrahim and with our driver, Mr. Gouda, who skillfully negotiated Cairo traffic. From the time we were met on arrival at the Cairo Airport, Ibrahim thoughtfully took care of everything for us.
We constructed our own itinerary through several e-mails, relying mostly on Ibrahim's excellent suggestions. I would not have changed a thing about our trip, except perhaps to add a couple days of relaxation in Alexandria, a very lovely city which we visited on a day trip from Cairo.
