Iraq & just war
Martin M. McLaughlinPeter Dula is right to call on Catholic conservatives like George Weigel to explain their "moral muteness in a time of war" ("The War in Iraq," December 3, 2004). The Catechism deals with just war only in terms of defensive war. It is disturbing that the Catholic conservatives who defended the war in Iraq have said so little about the thousands of casualties and the torture at Abu Ghraib. Dula's comments were backed up by his ten-month experience on the ground. Does Weigel have any such empirical basis for his views?
