Galyn C. HammondArthur Hayler, 91, passed away May 20, 2003 in Pacific Grove, California. He was born in San Diego on February 3, 1912 and lived in Pacific Grove for the past 28 years with his wife, Louise. Arthur graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1932 with a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering and worked for the California Division of Highways until he retired in 1971.
He joined PSA in April 1973 and was elected Associate in 1988. He was a member of the Peninsula Color Slide Club in San Mateo and served as its president in 1975 prior to moving to Pacific Grove. After moving to the Monterey Peninsula, he joined the Padre Trails Camera Club, actively taking part in the club's activities and serving as president in 1978. Arthur was an avid nature photographer with many beautiful photographs of anemones and other tidepool creatures.
He earned his fifth star in Nature in December 1993 at the age of 81. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of photography with anyone who was interested. He was very active in his church and enjoyed playing the piano for his church and friends. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, two sons, three daughters, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. All who knew him will miss this fine gentleman.
