Gold Kings come up aces/ Power line key in Anchorage defeat

Craig Lyons scored a pair of goals for the Colorado Gold Kings and the power line of RJ Enga, Colin Chaulk and Zac Boyer combined for two more and three assists as Colorado defeated Anchorage 5-3 Friday night at World Arena.

The Gold Kings scored three goals in the second period to make up for a mediocre first.

"We came out flat and had to re-group after the first period," said Lyons. "Every team in the league has to work around the schedule and we're no different. It wasn't the prettiest game, but at this point of the season, two points is two points."

After a scoreless first period, Jason Knox broke through with a wrist shot from just inside the blue line for his first goal of the season, at 4:52 of the second.

Anchorage, a team that has struggled all season, evened the score on the power play when B.J. Young's slapshot at 8:44 from the right circle beat goalie Kirk Daubenspeck.

But the Gold Kings dominated the rest of the period on goals from Chaulk and Lyons, who scored his 20th goal of the season with 2 minutes left in the period, and a 3-1 Colorado advantage.

After Enga made it 4-1 with his league-leading 39th goal, Anchorage's Young scored his second of the contest at 6:54.

Daubenspeck, who faced 35 shots in the game, kept the Aces in check until Cunningham's wrist shot with just 2 minutes to play, making it 4-3.

WELCOME ADDITION: With defensemen Brent Henley and Mike Nicholishen sidelined with injuries, and with Mike Garrow still with the AHL's Utah Grizzlies, Colorado coaxed former Gold King Anton Fedorov out of retirement for Friday night's game. Fedorov played for Colorado in the 1998-99 and earned an assist on Craig Lyons' second- period goal.
