Everyone gets into scoring act for Gold Kings

Scott D. Jones

Just when the rest of the West Coast Hockey League thought Colorado was strictly a one-line team, six Gold Kings scored goals to lead the team to a 6-2 victory over last-place Anchorage on Saturday at World Arena.

While R.J. Enga, Colin Chaulk and Zac Boyer continue among the league's goal scoring and points leaders, the latest contest against Anchorage showed the Gold Kings have depth heading into the playoffs in April.

The Gold Kings trailed 1-0 just 3:26 into the game, but Colorado dominated the rest of the way.

Center Tom Perry got things started with just 3 minutes left in the period beating Jamie McCaig to tie things at one goal apiece.

Few could blame Perry if he seemed a bit distracted heading into the game.

The veteran center was at the hospital in the early hours this morning with his wife, Kristin for the birth of their daughter, Lyndsey.

"My wife gave me the clearance to come out here and play," Perry said.

"I was pleased I was able to come out and contribute."

Despite the early deficit, Perry and the rest of the team turned things up against the Aces. In addition to Perry's goal, defensemen Juraj Slovak and Aaron Boh added second-period goals to give Colorado a 3-1 advantage heading into the final period.

In the third period, Darcy Johnson and Craig Lyons helped the Gold Kings build their lead to 5-1. It was Lyons' third goal in the last two games.

Colorado's captain also added three assists.

Zac Boyer added his 19th goal of the season to make it 6-1 as the Gold Kings pounded McCaig with 45 shots in the game.

"The last few weeks, everyone's picked up their play," Perry said.

"We have many guys who can put the puck in the net, as people saw tonight."

The Gold Kings continue to be one of the hotter teams in the WCHL, winning their eighth straight game against Anchorage and improving their record to 15-4-1 in their past 20 games.

Despite the impressive winning streak, Colorado continues to trail Idaho for first place in the Northern Division.

The Gold Kings came into the game 13 points behind the front- running Steelheads with 18 games remaining.
