Coronado finished last season second in the Metro League. Coach John Laxson retired this season. Bill Ferneyhough, who coached the boys to the Metro League title last fall, will take over the reins after six years as an assistant. Chelsea Benton will contend for top honors in the Metro League. Four seniors will also lead the Cougars into contention.
THE CONTENDERS
Air Academy is a strong contender in just its second year of girls golf. Coach Scott Davis is returning nine of 10 players from last season's deep team. . . . Pine Creek's state-qualifiers Audrey Ott and Lafia Morrow return to lead the seven-member Pine Creek squad. . . . Palmer is returning 10 players from last year's team. State- qualifier Dana Ballare will hope to continue shooting low 70s. . . . Wasson's Jessica Luther is returning after a state-qualifying season, and she hopes to repeat.
ROUNDING IT OUT
Liberty's Katie Thomas is returning after a run at the state tournament. . . . State-qualifier Angie Livingston is returning to lead a traditionally strong Cheyenne Mountain team. . . . Last season, Fountain-Fort Carson started tournament play shooting 401 and ended the season at 319. Coach Jim Jorgensen will look to continue the improvement. . . . David Williams' Mitchell team will be led by senior Jenelle Landon. . . . Harrison lost state-qualifying Tracy Berry, but hopes to counter the loss with freshman Cierra Ko. . . . Sand Creek returns state-qualifying junior Kacy Jones, plus seniors Katie Maxson (who missed state by a few strokes) and Cristal Gephart, and sophomore newcomer Katie Lipp.
