摘要:The present work brings a historical approach of the
importance of the wheat in the State of Rio Grande do Sul and
shows to the current position of the State’s wheat culture,
emphasizing its position in the Brazilian production. This culture
was the economic base of the Southern region of Brazil, in the
beginning of the process of modernization of agriculture, in the
decade of 1950. Gradually, with the reduction of the subsidies and
the consolidation of the Mercosul the situation is aggravated. From
than on the development of the culture of wheat in the State,
as well as in the country, faced great difficulties. However,
considering the existing productive capacity, crystallized in the
production of the 2003 harvest, gains importance the idea that,
ahead of promotion policies, the wheat culture can still be
developed in the State of Rio Grande do Sul.
