摘要:Background. Few diseases become overt in adolescence, so it is important to consider the degree in which anthropometry in teenagers can foretell as a risk factor of diseases in adult life. Data is scarce related to fat distribution pattern on adolescents and the risk of chronic diseases at later ages, however some results indicate that thoracic or abdominal fat are deposited during adolescence.
Material and methods. A cross-sectional study was performed during 1994-1996 on 371 girls from Lomas de la Estancia (in Iztapalapa, Mexico City) and in Santo Domingo Coyoac (also in Mexico City). A total of 104 girls were 10 years-old, 135 were 11 years-old and 132 were 12 years-old. A total of 32 anthropometric variables were measured according to the International Biology Program (IBP) as well as systolic and diastolic blood pressure; for this study, only those with a stronger relationship with the blood pressure were analyzed.
Mean and standard deviation were calculated and the association of the variables were analyzed by a Pearson correlation. A p value < 0,05 was considered as statistical significant.
Anthropometrics measurements and blood pressure can be very important to identify those adolescents with obesity and who have a potential risk to develop cardiovascular disease in order to prevent it in early ages.
